Guide Dogs for the Blind Association

We are Guide Dogs. And we’re here to help people with sight loss live the life they choose. Our vision is a future where every person with a vision impairment has the confidence and support to live their life to the full.
 
The challenge
 
·     1 in 5 people will live with sight loss in their lifetime.
·     Every day 250 people start to lose their sight in the UK. This is equivalent to one person every 6 minutes.
·     Nearly three-quarters of people with sight loss of working age are unemployed.
·     Around four children in the UK are registered blind or partially sighted every day.
 
Our guide dog service is at the heart of what we do, but we also work to help those living with sight loss live actively, independently and well, in a range of different ways.
 
How we can help
 
·     We currently support around 3,800 life changing guide dog and buddy dog partnerships.
·     We provide training sessions to people with sight loss covering a range of topics, including tech, travel and life skills.
·     We campaign to make sure children and adults with sight loss can live the life they choose, with our campaigning community of over 35,000 people.
·     We help children with a vision impairment learn essential life skills, through the expertise of our specialist staff and our My Time to Play sessions, providing advice and support for families.
·     We produce custom-made books, tailored to individual needs, so that no child should miss out on the joy of reading.
·     We provide support through digital information, and answer over 50,000 calls yearly providing expert advice.
 
But we can’t do any of this without our incredible volunteers and supporters; and we rely on donations to continue our life-changing work.
